Eviny Ventures, the corporate venture arm of Norwegian renewable energy producer Eviny, has joined a EUR 6.5mn funding round for Skyfora, a Finnish atmospheric data company that converts existing telecom infrastructure into real-time weather sensor networks. Ugly Duckling Ventures, Lumo Labs and the European Innovation Council Fund also participated in the equity portion of the round, alongside non-dilutive funding from Business Finland.

The capital will fund commercial scale-up of Skyfora’s software platform and atmospheric data products, expansion of partnerships with telecom operators, forecasting providers and meteorological institutions and team growth.

Skyfora’s technology uses GNSS receivers already installed in telecom base stations and cell towers to measure atmospheric humidity, processing signal delays into real-time weather data streams for AI forecasting systems. The approach requires no additional hardware at telecom sites, and the company has active deployments across multiple countries in Europe, the US, Africa and the Middle East.

For energy operators, short-range forecast accuracy directly affects balancing costs, grid reliability and power trading. Eviny, which generates more than 9 TWh annually and operates one of Norway’s largest regional distribution grids, is a user of the kind of high-frequency atmospheric data Skyfora produces, spanning hydropower scheduling and flood forecasting to energy market decisions.
