News review: Wk 4 December

As the year draws to a close, we are somewhat light on fundraising and AI news but have found an AI review on healthcare.

This time it is the result of a survey released by Carta Healthcare, a company that provides AI-powered clinical data abstraction solutions, and conducted by Reaction Data.

  • 62.5% identified data misinterpretation as the top risk when AI operates without human oversight.
  • 12.5% of organizations reported that autonomous AI has delivered the most value in their work to date.
  • 75% rely on ‘human validation’ to ensure AI outputs are clinically relevant and trustworthy. 
  • 75% rated clinical involvement in AI design and deployment as ‘critically important.’
  • 50% say AI should augment human decision-making.

  • Legal writing platform BriefCatch completes $6mn Series A round
    BriefCatch, a legal-writing platform for law firms and courts, has concluded its Series A round of funding led by Full In, a software-focused growth equity firm. The investment will continue the company’s development of the platform, facilitate growth and support plans to build a more comprehensive set of AI-assisted writing tools for the industry.
    The company was founded by legal-writing specialist Ross Guberman.
  • SDK Tek Services acquired by Ateko
    SDK Tek Services, a provider of data engineering and analytics integration services, has been acquired by Ateko, an AI-powered workflow automation and systems integration company. The deal comes at a time when demand for advanced data engineering and AI expertise is growing as organizations embed AI into operations while at the same time trying to balance strict data security and privacy standards.
    Tequity Advisors, an advisory firm specializing in global enterprise B2B SaaS products and AI/Data transactions, advised on the deal.
  • Chronic care management company Cosán raises $15mn growth equity round
    Cosán has raised a USD 15mn strategic growth equity round led by Ziegler Link-age Funds and The Specialty Alliance to expand its AI-enabled human-led virtual care platform. Specifically, it advances the company’s ability to grow its multidisciplinary care teams, enhance AI-driven insights and support practices that seek to improve outcomes and strengthen operational efficiency. OM Partners, LLC served as exclusive financial advisor and Sherrard, German & Kelly, PC served as legal counsel to Cosán. Reed Smith LLP served as legal counsel to Ziegler Link-age Funds. Ropes & Gray LLP served as legal counsel to The Specialty Alliance.
