Smallest.ai raises $13mn for Series A to focus on the architectural challenges of voice AI

San Francisco-based foundational AI research lab Smallest.ai has raised USD 13mn for its Series A round of funding led by Seligman Ventures with participation from Sierra Ventures and 3one4 Capital.

According to Smallest.ai, industry forecasts expect the global voice AI market to grow from USD 2.4bn in 2024 to USD 47.5bn in 2034, yet less than 1% of today’s global voice interactions are powered by AI. Furthermore, companies continue to struggle with systems that have numerous problems such as sounding robotic and failing under real-world complexity.

Against this backdrop, the company believes that the key to solving these problems is to focus on architectural challenges rather than making models larger. It characterizes its innovation as Voice 4.0, which is a shift toward AI architectures that process listening, reasoning, action and response in parallel.

The latest round brings the total raised by the voice AI company to USD 21mn and the company plans significant expansion over the next year as demand for enterprise voice AI accelerates.
